Something New Sampler & Some Goodies

Good morning! Hope you are having a nice day! So far so good here. Yesterday was super busy so I’m enjoying being home today even though I’m doing laundry! Lots and lots of laundry. Yesterday I shared this pic on Facebook – this is me and I’m hoping for the spotless house today!

We visited a quilt shop yesterday I hadn’t been to before.  It’s a little far out for me but wasn’t too far from the dentist we go to so I figured why not?  The quilt shop is called Susie Q Quilting.  She was very friendly and welcoming and had a nice selection of fabrics.  I picked up a few lovely goodies.  First, I got this great bag pattern.  She had three finished bags from the pattern all with different fabrics/styles.  I’m not crazy about the picture on the pattern but a couple of the finished bags she had were SO pretty!   Lots of storage.  Now… what fabric to use!

I also picked up two 1/2 yards of fabric to go with fat quarters I had purchased last year at the Queeny Park quilt show.  Aren’t they gorgeous?  I LOVE them!

And, I couldn’t resist this Riley Blake The Sweetest Thing layer cake.  So cute!

We also went out to lunch.  We are still on a hunt to find a good restaurant for Mexican restaurant.  We don’t go out to eat a lot but would love to find a few favorites for when we do.  Anyway, yesterday we visited Chimi’s Fresh Mex in Grover.  It was good.  Andrew got a burrito supreme (had pork, chicken, and beef), Sammy got cheese enchiladas, and I got a beef chimichanga.  Everything was really good.  The chips were nice and warm and the salsa was pretty yummy.  We got some queso – VERY different than queso I’ve had before but it was good. Some kind of white cheese and more liquid-y than I’ve had, but good.  Andrew loved his.  Sammy said someday he will bring his kids there. :) LOL!  Mine was good but different than I was used to.  I think there was clove in the chimichanga sauce -definately not something I’m used to in Mexican food.  I would definately go back but next time get the fajitas and see how those are.  They were fast and friendly and had good food and portion sizes more like Texas.  Even gave us drinks to go.  Had so much left over, Tom finished it for dinner!

Here’s Andrew – thrilled with his plate & portion.  He did not have leftovers!

Well, onto some quilting!  I’ve been trying to catch up on my Something New Sampler.

I’ve have two blocks finished so far and two in progress, though one is giving me fits!  Ugh!  Here is my clamshell.  I am using a yellow Kona (not sure which yellow it is) and A Breath of Avingnon by American Jane.

Little wobbly on my stitches but I don’t think it will be noticed too much once all the blocks are put together.  Need a little more practice on that and maybe need a magnifier to see a little better!

This rolling curves block is the one giving me fits.  I think I cut my curves too curvy so I’m going to cut more background fabric a little wider and redo my curves more gently!  Lets see how that goes!

Well, I’d better get to that cleaning!  Check back tomorrow and see my Bargello block – and don’t forget to enter my giveaway!

heh – in Boston, a Houston friend and I were served “Mexican fajita pasta” – she didn’t like it much; once I ignored the name and just thought of it as “food,” though, I thought it was pretty good :-)
