Weekend Update – Snow, Knitting, A Bag & BOM

Hello!  Hope you have had a lovely weekend!  We got snow last night!  The most we’ve had since we moved here!  Sammy and I went out and I tried to show him how to make a snowman.  Geez! How long did we play outside to make one?   Way too long for me today because I have allergic asthma and have been having a hard time with breathing over the last week.  It only happens about once a year since we’ve been in St. Louis – which is way better than Houston.  Hopefully over time it will go away!  Anyway…  Here is Sammy with our snow cat. :)

Tom had to do some IT stuff for work this weekend so we hung out at home.  I did a little cleaning and laundry and worked on some projects.

I finished up my bag for the Triple-Zip-Along hosted by Debbie over at A Quilter’s Table.  I think it turned out really cute!  How about you?

I sold two sets of embroidered handkerchiefs this week through my Etsy shop! YAY!

I also worked on my Skill Builder Block of the Month January blocks from Pile O’ Fabric.  I got them basted and ready to quilt.  I practiced some free motion quilting on some scrap fabric but then I decided to just jump in.   I’ve done stippling and I’ve done easier block patterns with my walking foot but this time I set the stitch length to zero and decided to just dive in.  For me, I found that I had to try things quilting down the block, up the block, and moving left to right to see which way worked best for me.  Also, I can see it takes practice (I’m sure lots!) to regulate your speed and stitch length.  I decided to not worry to much and just play.  I’m sure I will see measured improvement over this year and end up with a pretty fun quilt!

This is my Magnum block.  I need to finish it up tomorrow.

And here is the Sound Wave Block.

Can’t wait for February’s block(s)!

Finally, I have been teaching myself to knit.  I could do the knit & purl stitch but casting on, following patterns, and fixing mistakes I have no experience with.  I’ve been plugging away and have the casting on down!  I’ve been following 2 patterns! One for a wavy scarf pattern and a cable winter headband.  So far so good!  I still need to read up on how to fix mistakes, though!

Here’s my wavy scarf.

And my cables! Yay!!!

Well, that’s it for tonight!  Hope you have a great night and a wonderful week!
